AVERT AIDS Challenge Game

I created this video for AVERT  to promote AVERT’s online AIDS challenge game, which I created using processing

The animation was also mainly created with processing, using the OPENGL and physics library. Then their was some “montage” in After Effects to put all those animations together. The sound was put together using Live.

The AVERT AIDS Challenge is a educational puzzle-quiz type game where you are a red smooth snake. You have to collect letters in the right order to answer some AIDS question while escaping baddies. You can collect bonuses to make yourself invisible, freeze  the baddies, multiply your points and few more. While going through the levels, there will be more baddies that will get more aggressive, the questions will get more specific and the snake longer. The controls are simple, the snake follows your mouse. No clicks, no keyboard and a cool smooth movement.

You can play this game on AVERT’s website in the game section. Even if I wish I could have had more time to develop this game, it’s still a pretty good game for a game coded and designed by one person. The game was entirely created using processing with the traer.physicsminim library and a home-made collision function ( + a bit of maths’ magic ) from Rob Noble. All graphics were designed in Illustrator and Photoshop and the music in Ableton Live.

The game uses a back-end interface so AVERT can change the questions/answers and in-game phrases. This interface displays Stats and Hi-scores table. All php, database and interface was done by Karl Rixon.

All in One Gallery – Wordpress plugin

Display and browse all the images on your wordpress website in one place using the new [ gallery ] shortcode.

All in one Gallery is my first plugin for wordpress and my first program in php. I wanted to have all the pictures that have been uploaded on my website to be displayed and browsable in one place. I didn’t want to use another system then the default new gallery system of wordpress, because I wanted full compatibility and prefer to be pluged to the core of wordpress instead to depend on another gallery system. So the plugin is simply looking at all the categories, then check if there are images in all the category’s posts and, if there are, use the [ gallery ] shortcode. I use it with lightbox-2 plugin and cleaner-gallery plugin.

All-in-One-Gallery plugin work with the new [ gallery ] shortcode and therefor only work with recent version of wordpress ( 2.6, maybe 2.5 and probally future released ). Also, I created this plugin for Anna Chocola and myself, so I can’t garanty that it will work properly. But the plugin is so simple that it should work for everyone. You can try it on my website by clicking Image Gallery in the sidebar or on Anna Chocola’s website by also clicking on Image Gallery in the sidebar.

For up to date infos, latest and older versions, please go to the plugin page on wordpress.org

The plugin is pretty simple, there are only 3 options that you can find under Settings/All in One Gallery:

Style and Place the Gallery :

  1. Select the page where you want the gallery to be displayed. Note that you have to create a page to be use for the gallery.
  2. Select your color style for the menu, default is blue.
  3. Select how many columns in gallery (Just changing the attribute of the [ gallery ] shortcode.), default is 4

Exclude categories or Pages:

  1. In case you have some texts only categories or what ever is the reason why you don’t want some categories to be in the gallery.

Welcome message:

  1. Switch welcome message ON and OFF
  2. If ON, the gallery will display a default message that you can alter.
  3. If OFF, select the category’s gallery to be displayed

It’s also simple to install, like most wordpress plugin:

  1. Download all-in-one-gallery.zip
  2. Unzip and Upload the folder to  wp-content/plugins/
  3. Activate in the plugins tab in your dashboard
  4. Create a page for the gallery
  5. Set your settings under Settings/All in One Gallery

There might be other plugins that do that sort of things but I only seemed to find plugin that replace the default gallery system. I don’t want to change the core of my wordpress and also wanted to try something in php.

Move Digital Art Fair – Sonic Body

The Sonic Body was presented at the Move Digital Art Fair in La Coruna ( Spain ). It’s was a really good exhibition and the Sonic Body had a great success. We met some great Artists and saw some good Art work, like Arabesque installation by Peter William Holden. Arduino was used quite a lot in all installations.
